Wanted to head back to Costa Rica soon even though it has become overly surfed and extremely popular, we still love CR and feel comfortable traveling there. That said, I wanted to do some research for you regarding places to stay for official surf vacations in addition to pricing.

To find the best time of year to visit CR from a surfing perspective, it’s important to understand the regional seasons. Costa Rica doesn’t necessarily have four seasons, though here they are:

– Summer/High Season: December-April, consists of hot weather and little rain. Also expect crowds, primarily during Christmas, New Years and Easter. You’ll experience the highest rates and the best surf on the Nicoya and even on the Caribbean side.
– Rainy Season: May-November. May-August you’ll experience hot weather and random heavy rains in early morning and afternoon. You’ll also find smaller crowds and lower rates.
